Worries aside, the upside to AI is enormous. Here are a three examples.
1) Enhanced Automation: This is the biggie. AI can enhance the level of automation called Smart Manufacturing. This includes robots for plants of all sizes as well as new and improved machine tools. It’s not simply about replacing workers, it’s about doing things more accurately and faster than humans and in less friendly environments.
2) Army of None: do future battles require solders or pilots? Think of the number of human casualties in the great wars. Science fiction provides some interesting ideas on how future battles might play out, but masses of dead soldiers are rarely in any scenario.
3) Health Care: An AI system studying x-rays can identify negative elements (tumours etc) much more reliably than an x-ray tech. So not only can we have these elements discovered earlier but we can analyze these nasty bits easily from anywhere on earth.
