I have wonderful memories of Karye as a little girl when we were visiting the family in Moraga, California. Ian used to say that she loved to cuddle. In the photograph, she is 37 years of age. Time flies.
Karye is Ian and Meg's youngest and was born August 21, 1979. She was married in the Santa Cruz mountains in Aptos, California on July 21st, 2007. I will never forget that wedding surrounded by giant redwood trees. Here is a great wedding photo with her sister Kaytie and her brother Ian.
She met her husband Joel during their last year at the University of California in Santa Cruz during a course in advanced Environmental Economics. They were in the library when Karye approached Joel to help clarify some math equations.
Love the photo taken in Hawaii that was used to create a Christmas card in 2013. An ageless theme.
Collecting photos for these chapters is so much fun. When they were all in Canada, Karye bought some matching jammies with moose artistry. What a hoot. There are certainly no moose in northern California (an animal we have in abundance in Canada). Those warm pyjamas were useful when visiting their snowy cabin in Lake Tahoe.
This photo of Adeline, age (1) and Eliza, age (4) is one of Karye and Joel’s favourites. The girls like to “twin” and it is something kids will do only when they are young. For those who have raised girls, we all remember how fiercely independent they get as teenagers. What Mary and I call their “Martian period”.
Katie and Joel live in Sacramento, and mother Meg just loves to visit her grandchildren, seen here is Granny with Eliza at age (4).
And, another photo for the ages. A shot Karye took for Mother's Day. Everyone is wearing matching leggings. Here Eliza is (5 ½), and Adeline is (2).
Karye and Joel came with their two children to our 60th Anniversary celebrations in Toronto in 2015, and I have wonderful memories of watching Eliza running around our garden with cousins Caroline (Verity's daughter) and Maggie (sister Kaytie’s daughter). Hopefully, these stories of their mother's cousins will help bind them together as they get older.
