Ian and Meg were married in Moraga, California on July 5th, 1972. Party time.
It was a real family wedding with all the brothers and Mother and Dad in attendance. Aunty Anna and Uncle Lou were also there. We met the Breiling family, and Meg’s brother Brian chauffeured us around the area. Love the photo of Mom and Dad with the bridal couple.
During our other weddings, someone was always missing. Dad caught Ian smoking on our wedding day in 1955. They had a big fight, and Ian took the train home from London. Ian did not attend Robert and Jane’s wedding, and none of the brothers attended Peter and Barbara’s wedding in England. Love all of us in white jackets in the group shot of the brothers with Dad. My jacket did not fit, I remember (even when I sucked in my tummy).
The wedding and reception was held at the Brieling home on a monster deck that sprawled out over the valley. The view, not to mention the day, were magnificent. Here’s another great photo of the wedding party with me and Connie Breiling, the wife of Meg’s other brother, Dr. Boemer Breiling.
Dad was in great form, and while we were waiting for the reception, he found a set of false teeth in Dr. Breiling’s dental office, and showed them all around, asking if anyone had dropped their false teeth.
All of us remember the delicious California champagne and the quantity. In the shot of three of us with Mother and Meg, we have glasses that someone was continually filling. I tried to stay sober, being so mature.
And boys will be boys. When the couple sped away for their honeymoon, Peter had put a fish on the motor of the car and Robert had filled the back seat with cases of empty champagne bottles.
Thanks for the memories, dear Ian and Meg.
