I remember Robert telling me how Jane being pregnant with Aimée was such a surprise, and how they had already given away all their baby things like prams and cribs. But when born she was such a joy to them both. Aimée was thirteen years younger than Andrew and ten years younger than Angie. Talk about magic. The photo of Robert with Aimée is a family keeper.
The Robert and Jane Bulloch family were always close. I remember visiting them in Huntsville, and they always seemed to be having fun together. The photo of Andrew holding Aimée as a baby is another family jewel.
Aimée remembers her brother buying and trading cars as a teenager. Andrew played a stunt on her one evening and left her in the car in the dark. Out of nowhere, she saw a flashing blue light and Andrew calling out. “Aimée, there are aliens. They’re here.” He finally showed up with a single snowplough light. Aimée never forgot that evening.
And she remembers visiting Angie and Joel when they lived in Chelsea, Quebec after Angie had graduated from Pharmacy. She had borrowed Angie’s car to go shopping in Ottawa but got lost.
I love hearing Aimée talk about her grandparents. My mother was Grandma, and she remembers being told how to crochet and receiving a special doll in a basket wrapped in one of Grandma’s crocheted blankets. And of course, you had to put slippers on as soon as you arrived. That rule applied to everyone.
And her mother’s parents were Mawm and Pop. When they came to Huntsville and stayed in the guest room, Aimee remembers knocking on their door in the morning and having to play, “Little pig, little pig, let me in.” And they would reply, “Not by the hair on my chinny, chin, chin.” A beautiful story.
Aimée and Dylan were friends in Huntsville and eventually became much more. They took trips together to Manzanillo, Mexico and to Florida to see their folks. Aimée had a new puppy called Griz who was showered by gifts from Jane and Robert in their Florida home. I know they just loved springer spaniels and had several over the years.
The greatest family excitement, of course, is associated with the birth of wee Waverley and the photo of the two of them is a thing of beauty. Aimée sent me a set of photos to use for this memoir. The attached is my favourite.
But how about the shot of the three of them the day the child was born. Aimée is so gifted as an artist and has a degree in Fine Arts. You wonder in a new child just what talents and interests she is born with. There are some artistic abilities on the Bulloch side, but most of the creative genes come from the Fidlers. The only thing I can draw is my breath.
Aimée, like all of Robert’s children, worked at McDonald's in Huntsville. Love the photo of Waverly with the special hat. Looking like a McDonald's franchisee in the making.
Best of luck to Aimée from the family. Another teacher and a serious artist. I love the posting on Facebook of the photos of her students at her paint and wine nights in Huntsville. What a great idea.
